Question & answer

How much does it cost to send a newsletter?

The short answer

Up to a few thousand subscribers it can be free: beehiiv up to 2,500 subscribers, Kit up to 10,000, MailerLite up to 500. After that you pay by list size or sending volume, typically $10 to $40 a month for a modest list (guide prices, June 2026).

Newsletter tools charge in two ways. Most (MailerLite, Mailchimp, Klaviyo) bill per contact: the bigger your list, the higher the monthly fee, regardless of how often you send. Brevo flips it and bills per email sent; with a big list you rarely mail, that is far cheaper.

The free tiers vary wildly. Kit is the outlier with free up to ten thousand subscribers (without automation), beehiiv covers 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends, MailerLite gives you 500 subscribers with automation included. Mailchimp, after gutting its free plan in early 2026 to 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, is now the stingiest of the bunch.

Run the growth math early: at 2,500 subscribers most per-contact tools land between $20 and $50 a month. That sounds steep until you weigh what a list is worth; per dollar spent, email remains the best-converting marketing channel there is.
